African Diaspora
Social Society

Our goal is to help young black professionals and students form meaningful peer-to-peer relationships while connecting them to mentors and professional opportunities early in their careers.

We achieve this by facilitating immersive experiences and professional events, while also providing members with opportunities for dynamic work and leadership experience. We were founded in LA in January 2022, with our DC chapter opening spring 2023.

BROWN GIRLS DO BALLET 501©3

As a Brown Girls Do Ballet Mentor, I have been charged with spreading positivity about the role that diversity plays in the realm of classical ballet.

I am a defense line as it relates to combating negative stereotypes about dancers of color, and therefore serve as a role model and a leader for dancers in my community.

A Wider Circle 501©(3)

Since 2014, I have volunteered with A Wider Circle, a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to advancing equity in the greater Washington, DC area by fostering the exchange of goods, skills, services, and neighbor-to-neighbor connections.

The organization also engages in advocacy to address the root causes of poverty. As an essential support volunteer, I’ve contributed through various programming efforts, including sorting donations and stocking showrooms to help clients select the items they need.

BLACK STUDENT ASSEMBLY

In the wake of Black Lives Matter movement and the horrific death of George Floyd, our country had an awakening on the importance of racial and social justice for all citizens.

As a contributing voice in our Black Student Assembly, I am on the team to help combat racial discrimination in our Black Trojan community and outside our walls.

LAW OFFICES OF REBECCA BLOCK

While interning for the Law Offices of Rebecca Bloch during the 2022 summer at Georgetown University, I:

  • Worked on a Second Look Case
  • Drafted an IRAA (Incarceration Reduction Amendment Act) brief
  • Conducted witness preparation
  • Advocated for clients to congressional officials on Capitol Hill

My internship with Ms. Bloch gave me tremendous insight into the meaning of legislating freedom and advocating for reduced prison sentences in brown and black communities.

Amnesty International

I was the Founder and President of my high school’s first Amnesty International Chapter, where I worked to unite others in solidarity for justice and freedom both domestically and globally.

I extended my impact with Amnesty International by interviewing Terrance Sullivan, Director of Racial Justice, and meeting Paul O’Brien, Executive Director to discuss the ongoing challenges facing Black Americans and mass incarceration. I further explored these themes when I directed and produced the short documentary, Bound by Myth.
